Occupying a former factory owned and operated by the inventor of the shower cap, the 114-key Hotel de Point opened its door this summer in Flushing, Queens, New York near LaGuardia Airport. Architect Raymond Chan, who serves as the property’s managing partner, designed the hotel with nature at the forefront.
Greeting guests in the lobby is a neutral color palette of creams, browns, and whites bathed in a soft glow of LED lighting. Cream-toned Italian marble floor complement white textured walls with a wave-like pattern, while a 20-foot Italian marble reception desk faces a custom-designed art wall highlighted by a fireplace made of glass rocks. A sky-blue lighting fixture embellished with tiny circles hangs from the ceiling, recalling a fresh rainfall on a bright summer day. Meanwhile, a living wall resides behind plush white leather sofas.
In guestrooms, a palette of muted gray, cream, and white sets the stage for bursts of color coming from floor-to-ceiling nature-inspired art. Custom furnishings include white marble-top bedside tables, a leather armchair, and leather headboards. Marble lines the walls and floor of the bathrooms, equipped with rain showerheads.
In addition, the hotel integrates green elements throughout, including solar power, on-demand water heaters, LED lighting, recycled energy systems, motion sensors in guestrooms, and low-flow plumbing fixtures. The property is a member of Choice Hotels’ Ascend Collection.
