Hotel Maria Cristina, a Luxury Collection Hotel in San Sebastian, Spain, has unveiled the results of its $25 million restoration in time for its 100th anniversary. The nine-month project, led by Idom Engineering & Architecture, features interiors restored by HBA. The firm took enhanced the élan, soft curves, and feminine presence that have defined the hotel since it opened in 1912.
Public spaces boast soaring ceilings, intricate moldings, towering marble pillars, and a polished gray-and-white Carrara marble floor. A champagne color palette on the walls and furniture blend with warm mocha and copper-colored touches found in the soft velvet upholstery and hand-tufted wool rugs. Silvery silk curtains frame the passageways; behind the reception desk, padded leather walls fill the trio of arched wall niches.

The hotel’s 107 sumptuous guestrooms and 29 suites are dressed in pastel tones inspired by the fresh tints of macaron patisseries, with elegant gold furnishings and accents. Hues of gray, lavender and sky blue adorn the guestrooms, while chocolate colors accent the suites. A feminine spirit defines the guestrooms, where plush tufted headboards are framed in white painted moldings that trace a curvaceous outline and play upon the rooms’ Art Nouveau detailing.

F&B venues include Tse Yang, specializing in haute Chinese cuisine; Easo Restaurant, set within an octagonal dining room drenched in natural light; and Dry San Sebastian, a bar that takes its inspiration from Bette Davis.
