Celebrating the contemporary Latin art scene, Hotel Matilda will make its debut in September in the old world Mexican town of San Miguel de Allende. "While the typical hotel in San Miguel de Allende immerses guests in the historical past, Hotel Matilda will embrace the lifestyle of today’s travelers and offer them enriching new cultural and personal experiences," says Harold Stream, the hotel’s owner and developer. "From an ambience filled with engaging modern Mexican art to bold new variations on Latin dishes, the hotel will take tradition and move it forward into the future."
The 32-room boutique hotel will feature a living art gallery, as well as a large portrait of Stream’s mother, Matilda, painted by renowned Mexican artist Diego Rivera in the 1940s. Amenities include a gourmet restaurant, lounge and bar, spa, infinity pool and deck, and indigenous landscaping. The hotel will also take a sustainable approach through practices such as photovoltaic panels to produce electricity, solar panels to heat water, composting of organic waste, and automatic lighting controls to reduce energy use.
