The Hotel Monteverdi will open in August in the village of Castiglioncello del Trinoro in Italy. Michael Cioffi, an American lawyer and law professor, has rebuilt the semi-abandoned medieval village in a traditional manner that is inherently sensitive to and pays homage to the Tuscan region.
The seven-room hotel, comprising three villas, a restored 12th-century chapel, and an informal restaurant opening next year, serves as the village’s crown jewel. Italian interior designer Ilaria Miani and Ernesto Bartolini of DA Studio collaborated on the project, which used local craftsmen such as stone masons to return the property to its original glory. The use of indigenous materials and reclaimed wood were central to the meticulous and authentic reconstruction. Local woods, Tuscan flagstone, granite, and Carrara marble reflect the origins of the area.
