Situated in LA’s Koreatown, Hotel Normandie has seen better days. The 1928 building, a showcase of Renaissance Revival on the exterior and Spanish Revival inside, will now get new life thanks to a $5 million overhaul by architect Jingbo Lou, according to the Los Angeles Times. In the transformation process, Lou has discovered a host of hidden architectural gems. Original brick on the street level was hiding behind stucco, while a pull-up of old carpet revealed terrazzo and hardwood flooring. Entrance windows and the grand fireplace also were shrouded, and an arched doorway in the lobby was cemented shut. In addition, Lou hopes to add a restaurant, coffee bar, and bakery to the hotel.
