Hyatt Regency Chicago now boasts its redesign through newly released imagery of the new lobby, guestrooms, dining concepts, and meeting spaces. The renovations follow a three-year, $168 million renovation beginning in 2010 and completed this past April.
In 2010, phase one overhauled all guestrooms in the West Tower, while phase two renovated all of the guestrooms in the East Tower. Los Angeles-based Indidesign handled the guestrooms, premier suites, meeting planner elevator lobbies, and corridors.
Artwork played a critical role in the creative revamp. Assisted by Emeryville, California-based Studio EL, the guestrooms and elevator lobbies include black-and-white photographs of Chicago and focus on architectural details of the city.
The final phase of the project renovated the East Tower lobby in addition to the hotel’s meeting and event spaces and dining outlets. Locust Valley, New York-based firm Bentel + Bentel created an energetic common area that features a blend of modern technology and urban flare.
Hyatt Regency Chicago also enlisted artist Christopher Kennedy to create abstract images using fixed sources of light and a single-exposure camera. Featured in the lobby, these images are printed directly onto sheets of lightly brushed aluminum for an almost three-dimensional luminosity.
Following the final renovations, Hyatt Regency Chicago boasts four new dining concepts⎯⎯Stetsons Modern Steak+Sushi, American Craft Kitchen & Bar, Market Chicago, and BIG Bar. In American Craft Kitchen & Bar, local artist Ben Butler designed an 82-foot wide, 15-foot tall canvas print inspired by Lake Michigan.
