ICEHOTEL, in Jukkasjärvi, Sweden, has announced the guest artists designing its 11 suites. The designers had two months to complete and submit applications to ICEHOTEL following the creative team’s annual open call for artists in April.
Now in its 24th year, ICEHOTEL is built over eight weeks between the end of October and the end of December. The time includes building the structure itself, leaving each artist about three weeks to complete the designs.
This year’s artists include Brooke Erdman, U.S.; Camilla Bergman, Sweden; Christian Strömqvist, Sweden; Christine Close, France; Gretchen Alexander, Austria; Jens Dyvik, Norway; José Carlos Cabello Millán, Spain; Karl-Johan Ekeroth, Sweden; Lena Kriström, Sweden; Luc Voisin, France; Marcus Dillistone, UK; Mark Szulgit, U.S.; Mathieu Brison, France; Melanie Peters, Austria; Natalie Close, Japan; Natsuki Saito, Japan; Rob Harding, UK/Spain; Shingo Saito, Japan; Timsam Harding, UK/Spain; and Yoad David Luxembourg, the Netherlands.
The selected art suite design proposals for next winter’s hotel include a London Underground platform; a Frankenstein-like science lab; and a Montmartre-inspired rooftop setting⎯⎯all made in ice and snow. The guest designers range from film directors and architects, to children’s product designers and visual anthropologists.

Two additional art suites, a bar, a church, a reception, luxury suites, and the main hall are honorary projects assigned by ICEHOTEL’s creative team and are due to be announced later in the year. This year’s hotel will have approximately 65 rooms ranging over five categories, including the 11 individually designed suites by guest artists.
ICEHOTEL will open on December 6th.
