IHG is capitalizing on the growing wealth of the Chinese with a new upscale brand created specifically for China. Jan Smits, the company’s CEO for the region, tells Dow Jones Newswires that the region’s hotel industry outlook continues to show positive growth indicators. The hotelier, which hopes to expand the chain throughout Asia Pacific, has signed 12 initial contracts in Beijing, Shanghai, and second- and third-tier cities throughout China. The yet-to-be-named brand is set to launch in the next six months.
