The International Interior Design Association (IIDA) has named the annual IIDA/HD Product Design Competition’s Best of Competition in designer Eric Engstrom’s honor. Honoring the past president, the award will be given to the product design at the Hospitality Design Exposition & Conference (HD Expo) best expressing innovation, functionality, and aesthetic advancements in the hospitality industry.

“I am flattered IIDA has chosen to name this prestigious award in my honor,” says Engstrom. “I have always admired the collaborative relationship between the designer and manufacturer, and this competition serves to challenge and drive both sectors. Creative designers and manufacturers are leading the design industry into an exciting, dramatic and responsible future.”
Engstrom served on the IIDA board for a total of five years and held several positions, including IIDA president from 2005-2006.
“Eric is synonymous with the IIDA/HD Product Design Competition,” says Michael Adams, editor in chief of Hospitality Design (HD) magazine. “He has served as a judge for the competition on several occasions, and as with all Eric’s many interests, he assumed this role with the same sense of responsibility and love of the industry that he has shown throughout his career. I am proud to join IIDA in honoring Eric through this award.”
The 17th Annual IIDA/HD Product Design Competition will take place at this year’s HD Expo, May 15-17th at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. The Eric Engstrom Best of Competition winner will be announced in the July issue of HD magazine and on the IIDA website.
