Construction has begun on the Grand Islander by Hilton Grand Vacations Club at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Waikiki Beach Resort in Honolulu and is projected to complete by late 2016 or early 2017.

Los Angeles-based Indidesign will complete the design of the 525,000 square foot property, which includes the lobby, all public spaces, and 418 residences. Indidesign’s concept for the Grand Islander will reinterpret Hawaiian style and pay tribute to Waikiki Beach’s culture and history.

“The Grand Islander will be one of the most relevant new buildings to be erected in Waikiki in this decade,” says Beatrice Girelli, Indidesign’s co-founder and design director. “Indidesign’s goal is to establish a unique design identity for the interiors of this prominent tower by creating a regional connection to Hawaii in a fresh modern way.”
Locally sourced materials will adorn the property’s interior and include touches like carved wood, embossed veneers, and metal accents. A custom botanical feature referencing Grand Islander’s tropical surroundings will be displayed in the main lobby. This installation will showcase flowers made of cast resin placed on the wall paneling to form a tridimensional composition.
Indidesign has created tailored residences for the Grand Islander in different floor plans, including 237 one-bedroom units, 166 two-bedroom units, of which 19 are penthouses, and 15 three-bedroom penthouse units. Bespoke pieces will be employed throughout, including murals, textiles, area rugs, furnishings, lighting, finishes, and mirrors. The Grand Islander will also feature a curated artwork program, highlighting local Hawaiian artists and photographers.
As Indidesign’s seventh project in Hawaii, and its fourth in Waikiki, the Grand Islander follows the firm’s completion of Hokulani, another Hilton Hawaiian Village property, which opened in January 2014. The Grand Islander will be the newest addition to the popular resort complex.
