The Omni Royal Orleans is debuting a brand new look following $15 million renovations. Led by Tamara Sypult of San Francisco-based Interior Design Workshop (IDW), the redo includes modernized guestrooms and reinvigorated public spaces.
Drawing inspiration from the city, the design incorporates the local culture through a color scheme of ice blue, gold, chocolate brown, and rust. To complement the bright colors, the walls feature local artwork and photography-including a series of images snapped by local photographer Louis Sahuc, and commissioned furniture designs take cues from pieces found throughout the New Orleans antique district.
New wrought iron balconies-a signature feature found on French Quarter buildings-pay homage to the area’s colonial Spanish and French architectural styles. Custom carpeting mimics the balconies’ ornamental lace ironwork, while the drapery fabric was fashioned after a reduced-scale pattern of the same design. Windows are adorned with “drapery pockets” to open and expand the rooms.
Renovated public spaces follow suit with vibrant colors, patterns, and furnishings inspired by the hotel’s history and the surrounding city. Rounding out the space, warm colors and large lighting fixtures dot the main entrance and staircase. The lobby boasts custom furniture and fixtures-such as lighting sconces based on French Quarter antiques-and custom carpeting drawn from historical fabrics.
