The Cypress Inn in Carmel, California has unveiled an updated design. Completed by locally based Jan Gardner & Associates, the updates blend Hollywood glamor and exotic Morocco.
Inspired by the Inn’s fluid architecture and Spanish colonial flair, Gardner implemented a residentially inspired interior design of all 44 guestrooms and suites, fusing the two styles with a spiced-tone palette of paprika, ginger, and clove. Local artisans were commissioned for textured fabrics, sunken tubs, fireplaces, and wrought iron guest beds for the suites, which are set in cooler tones of camel and silver with alder wood furnishings. Guestrooms showcase custom Moroccan-inspired window treatments, Casablanca shutters, and deluxe shades⎯⎯as well as mosaic tiles, limestone bathrooms, contemporary calfskin studded chairs, and alabaster Moroccan-themed lanterns. The Queen tower suite also boasts handpainted tiles designed by architect Julia Morgan.

The hotel is swathed with new artwork⎯⎯including a mixed media set in 14-karat gold leaf, sea green, and terracotta, and sepia-toned photography depicting vignettes of old Spanish churches and haciendas. An additional focal point is the silver and copper-toned IKAT wall treatment behind the suites’ guest bed. Known for its pet-welcoming stance, the renovation also includes custom-designed dog blankets and accouterments in commercial-grade fabrics.
