Jeffrey Beers International has signed on to transform Aventura Palace into Hard Rock Riviera Maya, south of Cancun, Mexico. The project will result in two distinct hotels: one for adults only, and one for families. The firm will take cues from Mexico’s natural beauty, combining it with the Hard Rock brand’s rock-n-roll vibe. “The design evokes a clear sense of place by using colors, materials, and motifs traditional to this part of Mexico while also introducing new spaces that will resonate with Hard Rock fans,” says Jeffrey Beers.
Specifically, Beers’ design team found inspiration in the Festival de Avåndaro, a Woodstock-like music festival that took place in 1971 on Mexico’s Lake Avåndaro and drew over 200,000 attendees. The Mexican government suppressed rock music in the aftermath of the chaotic one-day concert, leading to the creation of illicit “café cantante” venues akin to American speakeasies. The new dinner theater in the adult hotel pays homage to this rebellious spirit of Mexican rock-n-roll.
Guestrooms at each hotel will have distinctive color palettes: lunar blue, purple, and silver hues for the adult section, and sunny red, orange, and yellow tones for the family area. Other changes slated for the resort include new cabanas, palapa-roof restaurant, wedding pavilion, nightclub, and an enhanced pool and beach experience. The second phase calls for a teen club and renovation of the convention center.
