Designer Karim Rashid and DuPont™ unveiled "Smart-ologic Corian® Living" this month during Milan Design Week. Designed by Rashid, the sustainable home concept—complete with a kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, living room, and garden—is based on the design versatility of the surfacing material. Specific Corian materials used in the display include the new Eco-Concrete and Eco-Terrazzo series made of recycled content and bio-sourced components. Other DuPont materials used in the project include Zodiaq® quartz, Energain® panels for reduction in energy consumption, Tyvek® building membrane, and a photovoltaic system.
"The Smart-ologic Corian Living project gave me the opportunity to design a modular holistic house concept, a metaphor for how materials, technologies, housing, furnishings, and space can work together to evoke an increased sense of experience, positively affect our psyche, and bring us a better contemporary life, a better living, and also enable us to reduce the environmental impact of our daily decisions and actions," Rashid says.
