German fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld has been commissioned to design two suites for Hôtel de Crillon in Paris. Originally built in 1758, the iconic hotel, which recently joined Rosewood Hotels & Resorts, will undergo a complete restoration, expected to be completed in 2015.

Located on Place de la Concorde, the hotel has stood through the reign of two French kings, the French Revolution, the rise and fall of the Napoleonic Empire, and the birth of the League of Nations. “We are delighted that Karl Lagerfeld has agreed to work with us on the restoration of Hôtel de Crillon. No one understands Paris or the heritage of Hôtel de Crillon better than Mr. Lagerfeld,” says Radha Arora, president of Rosewood.
The restoration-which will add a contemporary polish to the hotel while remaining respectful of its traditions and character-will be led by architect Richard Martinet and Lebanese designer Aline d’Amman, in collaboration with local designers Chahan Minassian, Cyril Vergniol, and Tristan Auer.
