Kempinski Hotels has taken over the management of the Gran Meliá Hotel Shanghai in Pudong, Shanghai. Originally opened in February 2010, the hotel was recently rebranded as Grand Kempinski Hotel Shanghai and became the group’s 18th property in China.
The 678-room Grand Kempinski Hotel Shanghai overlooks the Huangpu River and the Shanghai skyline. Ranging from 463 to 2,637 square feet, the rooms feature a contemporary design. Four restaurants and three bars offer international fare including Chinese, Italian, and South American cuisines.
“To be present in Shanghai with two hotels is a milestone for Kempinski in China and an important strategic step for the brand,” says Michael Henssler, president of Kempinski China. “Kempinski Hotels are proud to have two flagship properties situated on both sides of the river, each offering an attractively different concept.”
Next up: Kempinski is opening a hotel in Taiyuan later this year.
