A subsidiary of the Kohler Co. has acquired Hamilton Hall at St Andrews. The purchase joins the company’s other holdings at the Scottish landmark, including the Old Course Hotel, Kohler Waters Spa, and the Duke’s golf course. In a statement, Kohler Co. says that it will conduct a "public consultation process" to gather input for the hall’s use. "We are excited about the development opportunities for Hamilton Hall, and appreciate both the support and enthusiasm the local community has for the property," says chairman and CEO Herb Kohler. "We look forward to gathering input from the townspeople and the Fife Council as to what the name of the building should be along with its future use."
Hamilton Hall was originally opened as the Grand Hotel in 1895 but closed during World War II after the armed forces requisitioned it. From 1949 to 2006, the building served as a residence hall for the University of St Andrews.
