Nick Hart and Clay Miller have announced the launch of their furniture company, Hart Miller Furniture, Inc. Based in Atlanta, the company will supply custom-made furnishings made in the Americas.

In 2012, Hart and Miller began discussing a shared passion for the hospitality industry and the loss of furniture manufacturing jobs to Asia. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the U.S. has lost over 300,000 such jobs since 2000. In light of these numbers, the two men established HMF.

With 30 years of experience in the hospitality carpet industry, Miller will handle sales and marketing, while Hart will work in operations and production. Manufacturing facilities include a factory in Bogota, Columbia-handling high-end projects-and two plants in Tennessee for upper middle range and upholstery projects.
Pricing will be comparable to furniture made in Asia. “There are many factors to consider when seeking custom furniture,” says Miller. “The superiority of American construction methods certainly extends the life cycle of the furniture, and shorter delivery cycles and lower cost of freight can result in substantial savings to the customer.”
With locally sourced materials, pricing of the bespoke casegoods and upholstered pieces will be comparable to Asian-made furniture. Made in local factories, the added accessibility simplifies the production and review process, and items can be delivered in three to four days.
“In Bogota, it is not uncommon to have employees whose families have worked in the furniture business for generations and they take enormous pride in every product they make,” says Hart. Similarly, the people hired for both Tennessee factories are knowledgeable in the manufacturing of fine furniture and upholstery. “I grew up around these hard-working people and just knew we could make a competitive product closer to home.”
