MGM Resorts is seeking approval from Clark County to demolish the uncompleted Harmon Hotel at CityCenter in Las Vegas, according to Vegas Inc. In 2008, an engineer found significant construction flaws in the building. MGM Resorts consulted with construction experts, who deemed that it would take a year and a half to just to conduct tests, assuming that repairs were possible.
Then, in July 2011, an engineer issued a warning that the Harmon would collapse in a strong earthquake. However, the building’s general contractor, Perini Building Co., says that the defects are fixable. The two companies are currently in a court battle over the project.
