Starwood Capital Group has announced plans to renovate the Minnewaska Lodge. Located at the base of the Shawangunk Mountains in Gardiner, New York, the two-month project will transform the lodge’s public spaces.

Local company McMahon’s Home Improvement will handle renovations of the lobby and atrium⎯⎯opening up the space using sustainable products and methods. Stone tile and tulip wood slab counters will add to the lobby’s approachable style, while a grand mantel with floating shelving and artwork will anchor the space. Original details⎯⎯including the floor-to-ceiling glass walls overlooking a cliff face⎯⎯will be retained.
The renovations follow major enhancements at the lodge in 2012. Two 42-inch stone firepits were installed in the backyard area, while guestrooms received flatscreen televisions, custom-designed furniture, new mattresses, and bedding. The island entryway was also landscaped to blend with the surrounding area.
“What makes this property unique is its ability to appeal to guests looking for the classic American lodge as well as those wanting an easy to love modern hotel,” says Kemper Hyers, head of design at Starwood Capital Group. “The new great room design, for example, bridges those two worlds with its new stone hearth, modern mission-inspired furniture, and new colors and art. These things layer the design and really give the hotel its voice.”

The lodge’s 26 guestrooms⎯⎯boasting cathedral ceilings, private balconies, and mountain and forest views⎯⎯will remain open during the renovation and finish in time for the spring holidays and vacation season.
