Deborah Moss of Toronto-based Moss & Lam has established the Edward Lam Memorial Scholarship in honor of the late designer. The scholarship will provide financial assistance for a Grade 12 student in need at Etobicoke School of the Arts, in Toronto, who will be continuing in post-secondary arts education.
The criteria for the award will be acceptance into a post-secondary institution to study film, visual arts, or dance, while acceptance will be the marker of achievement. Need will be determined by the school. The first awards will be made at this coming year’s commencement in October 2013.
ESA was founded in 1981 and is Canada’s first publicly funded arts secondary school. Every student focuses on one of six majors⎯⎯visual arts, film, music, music theater, dance, and drama. Typically the school has about 1,000 auditions and accepts about 250 students each year.
