The Mövenpick Heritage Hotel Sentosa has restored a World War II building as a new all-suite wing. Previously a barrack base housing British artillerymen, the contemporary wing takes inspiration from history, as well as from Singapore’s culture.
Singapore-based DP Architects infused the spaces with a modern colonial feel. Original features-colonial doors, window frames, wide corridors, and high ceilings-are now done in contemporary finishes, while atmospheric fans, slate bathroom floors, patchwork carpets, local design motifs, and natural wood finishes are found throughout. Eccentric touches, such as box shelves arranged with paint-adorned vintage books, add to the new wing’s subtle modernism.
In addition to these 62 suites, the 191-room hotel now features Tablescape, an all-day restaurant, and World of Whiskeys, a whiskey lounge. Adding to the hotel’s contemporary appeal is World of Whiskey’s focal point-a 15.75 foot piece of Indonesian teak shaped in a Y-shaped table. The lounge also includes oversized kerosene lamp chandeliers and granite tabletops.
Further features of the three-story hotel include sculpted gardens, an aquarium pool, and a selection of rooms facing Imbiah Lookout. With 191 total rooms, the Mövenpick Heritage Hotel Sentosa offers 19 suites with outdoor hot tubs, 105 deluxe rooms, two penthouse suites with private rooftop pools, and three executive suites.
