Developer Jay Domb owns seven Manhattan hotels and is adding an eighth property in South Bronx. Domb is restoring the Bronx Opera House-where the likes of Georg Burns and Houdini once performed-and converting it into a 61-key, $10 million boutique hotel, according to the New York Daily News. Thus far, he has restored the building’s Beaux Arts façade and renovated the four-story front section that once housed the opera house lobby and three upper reception halls. A three-story structure replaces the condemned 1,920-seat auditorium.
“I know it will be a challenge to open a 3-star hotel here,” Domb told the New York Daily News. “But I think the community will appreciate it.”
