Renaissance Washington, DC Downtown has unveiled its multimillion-dollar lobby renovation, designed by Looney & Associates. The firm replaced the hotel’s traditional lobby with one that captures the essence of the nation’s capital in modern ways. Contemporary artwork-LED-based pieces of historic and modern DC images, odes to presidents such as George Washington and Abraham Lincoln, enlarged money printed on wood blocks, and pop-up interpretations of the Smithsonian Institute-bring depth to the space.
In addition, the lobby now features several spaces allowing guests to conduct meetings or connect socially. The central seating area, called Mingle, is anchored by a cherry blossom-inspired steel and hand-blown glass sculpture by artist Brad Oldham. The residential-style lobby library, known as Explore, dazzles with a 24-arm Murano glass chandelier and a white leather curved sofa. The high-energy Mixx bar rounds out the lobby.
