NEWH, Inc.-The Hospitality Industry Network will be the inaugural recipient of Hospitality Design (HD) magazine’s Visionary Award. The honor will be bestowed to the organization at the magazine’s annual Platinum Circle Gala, held during the 2011 Hospitality Design Exposition & Conference (HD Expo) in Las Vegas on May 18th.
“The HD Visionary Award has been established to honor those who have dedicated themselves to giving back to and enhancing the hospitality industry,” says Michael Adams, editor in chief of HD. “NEWH has been chosen for the first award by virtue of their 27 years of leadership, generosity, education, and business development. The hospitality industry would not be the cohesive and influential force it is today without their influence.”
NEWH is an international nonprofit organization boasting 20 chapters and two regional areas. Some 4,000 members strong, NEWH brings together professionals from all facets of the hospitality industry, providing opportunities for scholarships, education, professional development, and networking. To date, the organization has given out $2,345,329 in scholarships to students studying in various hospitality and design fields.
“NEWH has been such a strong supporting organization for this industry and has achieved so much through its student programs and networking opportunities that this award is truly well earned and deserved,” says Liz Sommerville, group show director of Nielsen Expositions, which produces HD Expo.
“NEWH is thrilled to be the first recipient of this prestigious award,” says Shelia Lohmiller, NEWH’s executive director and one of its co-founders. “It has taken many people to reach the point of success we are at today. With our volunteer membership and industry supporters, there are no limits to where we can take this fabulous industry.”
