Nearly three decades ago, North Korea started building the 105-story pyramid-shaped Ryugyong Hotel in the capital city of Pyongyang. The project stalled in the ensuing years due to economic mismanagement and lack of funds, but it will partially open next summer, according to Bloomberg Businessweek.
Swiss-based Kempinski will operate the property. About 150 of the originally planned 1,500 guestrooms will be available; the remaining will be developed over time to refurbish the poorly designed spaces. The hotel will feature restaurants, retail, and a ballroom.
