The Queen Mary, docked in the Port of Long Beach, California, has completed renovations while preserving its Art Deco décor. “It was important for us to maintain the ship’s authenticity and historic appeal,” says general manager Uwe Roggenthien.
The ship’s 314 staterooms now feature new bedding, curtains, and carpeting, along with flatscreen TVs and iPod docking stations. Interiors were also refurbished at signature restaurant Sir Winston’s and the Promenade Café, where updated menus embrace sustainable dining practices. A third restaurant was completely redesigned as a classic fish house and reopens as the Chelsea Chowder House & Bar. Meanwhile, the Royal Wedding Chapel received a fresh coat of paint, new carpet, drapes, and pews while retaining its romantic charm. In addition, the ship’s 18,700 square feet of function space was renovated with new carpet and drapes chosen in consultation with an Art Deco historian.
