London-based ReardonSmith Architects has formed a landscape design team under the leadership of Ed Freeman. He joins ReardonSmith as director of landscape with over 14 years of experience as a landscape architect and urban designer.
“Increasingly in our resort masterplanning work, we were being asked by clients to define the principles of the landscape design as part of our initial concept, so it seemed sensible to us to bring a talented and experienced individual into the company so that we could enhance and expand our client service,” says Patrick Reardon, executive chairman of ReardonSmith. “Over the years, we have worked with Ed on several projects and know that we share what to us is an all-important commitment to respecting the environment. We believe that, particularly in rural and resort locations, our buildings should be woven into their environment, not imposed on them.”
Most recently, Freeman worked with Capita Lovejoy on a portfolio of masterplanning and regeneration schemes as well as luxury hotel and resort projects, both in the UK and overseas. He collaborated with ReardonSmith on the early phases of Porto Montenegro and the Regent Porto Montenegro Hotel & Residences⎯⎯scheduled to open in summer next year. He also worked with ReardonSmith on the Four Seasons Baku, where he designed both the private gardens and public piazza.

“This is a very exciting moment for all of us,” says Freeman. “We think this new proposition at ReardonSmith will prove very compelling for clients. They will benefit from a team with both unparalleled hotel architecture experience and landscape design expertise, coming together in a seamless process to completely integrate building and landscape design from the very earliest conceptual stage.”
