Sahara Hotel & Casino will close its doors on the northern end of the Las Vegas Strip on May 16. “We are working with our partners to assess a variety of options for the property, including a complete renovation and repositioning,” says Sam Nazarian, CEO of sbe Entertainment Group, which owns and operates the Sahara. “While no final decisions have been made at this point, the continued operation of the aging Sahara was no longer economically viable.”
Nazarian says that his company will work with MGM Resorts to find jobs for Sahara employees. The hotel-casino closed two of its three hotel towers and buffet in 2009 because of slow sales.
