Sam Nazarian’s SBE has announced development plans for the SLS Hotel South Beach, the SLS brand’s second location. Scheduled to open in spring 2012, the 142-key property will feature design by Philippe Starck and chef Jose Andres’ second Bazaar restaurant. Originally built in 1939 under South Beach architect L. Murray Dixon, the SLS will sport a rooftop architectural design depicting a lantern reaching to the sky; it will be the tallest art deco structure in South Beach. Starck’s design calls for a surrealistic ambiance highlighted by a white-on-white palette with accents from carpeting, stone, and artwork.
Other elements at the hotel include 10 luxury poolside bungalow suites; an expansive pool deck; Hyde Beach, an indoor/outdoor lounge; Katsuya South Beach; and Ciel Spa.
