The Setai Fifth Avenue, a Capella Managed Hotel opens this week two blocks north of the Empire State Building. Gwathmey Siegel & Associates handled the luxury property’s architecture, while Don Siembieda and Francisco Jove, principals of DAS Concepts, Inc., are responsible for the contemporary interiors, which blend understated elegance with a style distinct to its New York setting.
Anchored by an imposing staircase, the intimate lobby will create an arrival experience akin to being welcomed into a grand home. The hotel’s 157 guestrooms, measuring 700 square feet and up, are outfitted with refined details, such as walnut paneling, fine-woven textiles reminiscent of a bespoke menswear suit, and platform upholstered beds. Expansive windows afford sweeping city views and plenty of natural light, while fully fitted Italian-style closets boast glass-fronted walnut drawers, leather luggage racks, and built-in safes. Sitting atop the guestrooms are 54 apartment suites and three penthouse apartments.
Showcasing a casual vibe with seating for up to 160, Ai Fiori is the hotel’s signature restaurant. Meanwhile, the Bar on Fifth features a design that is quintessential New York with touches of Europe and the Far East. Large custom bookshelves contain carefully selected books and art pieces. Further defining the space are rich materials such as black oak, “black cosmic” marble, limestone and fumed oak with silk wall paneling, bronze-tinted mirrors, and wool carpets.
The Auriga spa spans an entire level, featuring 11 private treatment rooms, wet rooms, experiential showers, a vitality pool, sauna, steam room, hammam, and Julien Farel Salon. A fully equipped fitness center resides one level below. The hotel also includes 2,500 square feet of dedicated event space on the third floor.
