The Montecito Inn in Santa Barbara, California is currently undergoing renovations by Santa Barbara-based Smith + Firestone Associates (sfa design). Inspired by a Hollywood history, the renovations are expected to wrap in August.
Taking the Inn’s 1920s history into account, sfa will create a masculine but elegant aesthetic with the hotel’s new ode to the ‘Gatsby’ mansion throughout the 90 guestrooms, lobby, and corridors.
“Keeping the inn feel was important to the client, as was making the design relevant to the location,” says Kara Smith, sfa president. “Though we wanted to exude the luxury and uniqueness of a boutique hotel, the ambiance still had to make sense in the setting meaning nothing heavy or urban, and exciting in a more relaxed, polished way.”
