The Walt Disney Company and joint venture partner Shanghai Shendi Group have broken ground on the Shanghai Disney Resort, the first Disney property for mainland China. Promising to be “authentically Disney and distinctly Chinese,” the resort includes Shanghai Disneyland, featuring several themed lands complete with iconic attractions and experiences. At the heart of the park will be an interactive castle with entertainment, dining, and performance experiences. An 11-acre green space will anchor the center of the theme park.
Expected to open in 2016, the resort also calls for two themed hotels, as well as a large venue for retail, dining, and entertainment.
