Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts is unveiling two Shangri-La hotels in mainland China this month. Increasing the group’s greater China portfolio to 43 hotels, Shangri-La Hotel, Qufu opens today in the hometown of Confucius, while Shangri-La Hotel, Shenyang will debut on August 15th in Shenyang.
The design of Shangri-La Hotel, Qufu⎯⎯the city’s first international luxury hotel⎯⎯pays homage to Qufu’s history and Confucius by blending Confucian principles, Chinese traditions, and contemporary style. The hotel’s façade resembles a Chinese pavilion with roofs topped with gray tiers of flying eaves.
Inside, the concept expresses the three key principles of Confucian philosophy and is based on Confucius’ Six Arts⎯⎯which include rites, music, archery, chariot racing, calligraphy, and mathematics. Among the hotel’s 211 guestrooms, the rooms and suites facing the Yi River overlook the old city wall, palaces of the Temple of Confucius, and the hotel’s traditional Chinese landscaped garden.
The hotel’s food and beverage facilities include Shangri-La’s Shang Palace Chinese restaurant, Café Kong, and the Lobby lounge. Other venues include a 17,222-square-foot pillar-free Grand ballroom with an outdoor terrace.
Shangri-La Hotel, Shenyang is the brand’s second property in the capital of the Liaoning Province. Drawing inspiration from Shenyang’s Imperial Palace, the hotel features 424 guestrooms offering panoramic city views and golden and chocolate brown palettes.
The 44,294 square feet of meeting space is spread over two floors⎯⎯including the main 20,451-square-foot pillarless ballroom and the 6,458-square-foot pre-function area. A 6,092-square-foot ballroom and seven function rooms complement the grand ballroom. Hotel restaurants include the top-floor Shinsen, all-day dining restaurant Café Liao, and Summer Palace.
