Notable Openings to Come
Shangri-La Hotel, Mumbai will open in the first quarter of 2013 and will be Shangri-La’s second property in India. Designed by Mumbai-based Shekhar Patki, the 410-room hotel is located in the heart of the city, within the Lower Parel.
Shangri-La Bosphorus, Istanbul, the group’s first hotel in Turkey, will open in early 2013. The 186-room hotel is located between the Dolmabahçe Palace and the Maritime Museum on the European coast of the Bosphorus Strait.
Shangri-La Hotel, At The Shard, London will open in the second quarter of 2013 and will be the first hotel in the United Kingdom for Shangri-La. The 202-room hotel occupies floors 34 to
52 of The Shard, at 1,016 feet the tallest building in Europe. Designed by Renzo Piano, The Shard will offer views of London landmarks such as St. Paul’s Cathedral, The Gherkin building, the London Eye, Tower Bridge and the Tower of London.
Jing An Shangri-La, West Shanghai, the group’s third hotel in Shanghai and its first hotel on the west side of the city, will open in the second quarter of 2013. The 508-guestroom hotel occupies the top 28 floors of a 59-story building, and the hotel’s restaurants are being designed by Hong Kong-based Andre Fu, Tokyo-based Super Potato and New York-based AvroKO.
Shangri-La Hotel, Doha will open in the second quarter of 2013. The hotel will be Shangri-La’s sixth hotel in the Middle East, complementing the group’s four hotels in the United Arab Emirates and a resort in the Sultanate of Oman.
Shangri-La Hotel, Lhasa will open in the third quarter of 2013 on the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau, the highest region on earth. The 284-room urban resort will rest amongst the tallest peaks in the world: a striking mountain landscape of glaciers, valleys and lakes.
Shangri-La Hotel, Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia will open in the capital of Mongolia in 2013. Shangri-La’s first hotel in Mongolia will be part of an office, retail and hotel complex located on the east side of the Sukhe-Bator Square in the center of Ulaanbaatar city.
Shangri-La is planning two developments in Sri Lanka. The group will initially open a beachside resort with 377 rooms plus villas on the southern Hambantota coast in 2014. The following year, a multi-use complex with shopping facilities, residences and a luxury hotel will open in Colombo.
Shangri-La Hotel, Qufu will open in the first quarter of 2013. An ancient walled city in Shandong Province and two hours north of Shanghai, Qufu is the birthplace of Confucius. UNESCO has named the Temple of Confucius, the Cemetery of Confucius and the Kong family mansion to its World Heritage list.
Located in the central business district of Bangalore, Shangri-La Hotel, Bangalore will open in 2013. Known as the “Silicon Valley of India” because of its focus on information technology, Bangalore is located on the southern Deccan Plateau and is one of the fastest growing cities in India.
