Owned and operated by the Farzam family, the eco-friendly Shore Hotel is on track to debut this summer in Santa Monica. Architectural firm Gensler has created a property big on openness, brightness, and color. The U-shaped design of the main hotel building is equipped with an outdoor pool and patio, situated under a steel-trestle roof. The building also features a three-tier sky bridge that connects to a second collection of rooms.
Featuring private balconies that face the Pacific, the hotel’s 164 guestrooms are outfitted with custom teak tea wood furnishings and a palette of teal and orange. Gensler also incorporated elements from the beachside environment, including cream-colored sandstone walls in the lobby, as well as the open and airy reception area, whose glass walls overlook the ocean and native vegetation.
In addition, the hotel is being designed toward LEED Silver standards. To build the lodging, the Farzam family removed two existing hotels (the Pacific Sands and Travelodge) and recycled or salvaged more than half of construction waste materials. Energy conservation practices include auto demand response, roof-mounted solar panels, an occupancy sensor system, and high-efficiency boilers and burners. Other green initiatives: a storm water management plan, the use of native plants in landscaping, and installation of high-efficiency toilets and low-flow showerheads.
From a materials standpoint, the hotel sports lobby chairs upholstered with 100 percent recycled polyester, guestroom carpeting made with recycled content, and quartz vanities and desktops that contain eco-safe solvents and adhesives.
