Six Senses Hotels Resorts Spas is expanding globally with the addition of nine new resorts and four spa/wellness clubs. Over the next 36 months, Six Senses will double the number of resorts to 18 properties as well as 33 spas/wellness clubs worldwide.
The additions include the group’s first ski resort, an urban hotel, and three resort projects located at UNESCO World Heritage Sites. In 2015, the first of these additions will open in France: Six Senses Mont Blanc will house 32 suites overlooking the Alps and will offer 280 miles of ski runs.
In 2016, Six Senses Wuma will debut in the Jhihben hot spring area of Taitung in Taiwan. The resort is designed by Japanese architect Kengo Kuma, and will offer 50 suites and villas. Also opening in 2016, the Six Senses Cartagena will mark the group’s entry into South America and its first urban hotel project. Located inside a colonial walled city and fortress and a UNESCO World Heritage site, the 100-room and suite Columbian hotel will be incorporated into the restoration of a 17th century monastery anchoring the property. The hotel will also feature the city’s first open-air rooftop bar and rooftop swimming pool. The Six Senses Bhutan and the Six Senses Freedom Bay, St. Lucia are also set to open in 2016.
Several more additions are in the pipeline, with opening dates to be announced: the Six Senses Ninghai in southeast China will feature a natural hot spring on site, and the design of its 129 villas will offer a sense of heritage alongside modernity and drama with some accommodations perched on a hillside. In Bali, the Six Senses Uluwatu will be situated on a cliff top and will boast 120 suites-including villas- which will integrate Balinese cultural expressions through design. The resort company will also open the Six Senses Qing Cheng Mountain, China in 2014, and the Six Senses Gammarth in Tunisia.
