Sbe has reopened the former Ritz Plaza Hotel in Miami as SLS Hotel South Beach. The historic Art Deco building has undergone a transformation courtesy of design icon Philippe Starck, along with chef Jose Andres for the Bazaar restaurant and Kravitz Design Inc. on the penthouse suites. Starck’s design imparts a “dream world” theme that uses a pink and white palette inspired by old French aristocracy.

The Tower Penthouse showcases a mix of worldly and eclectic styles complemented by colors that give a nod toward traditional Art Deco colors, while the Villa Penthouse also incorporates Art Deco details, along with warn Cyprus wood, Thassos marble, leather, mirrors, metals, and sleek furnishings. In addition to Bazaar, the hotel will feature sbe’s eight outpost of Katsuya by Starck, anchored by a sake wine tower, and Dragon Lounge on the second floor. Another highlight of the property is the oceanfront Hyde Beach, offering 8,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor lounge amenities, including poolside cabanas with mini-fridges, phones, and flatscreen TVs.
