Sofitel The Grand Amsterdam, which dates back to 1578, has become the brand’s first Legend hotel in Europe following two years of extensive renovations. Leading the redesign was French interior architect Sybille de Margerie, who took her inspiration from the colors of the famous mural by COBRA artist Karel Appel, displayed in the hotel’s restaurant. In addition, she utilized brick for some walls to tie in the Dutch Classicist style. For the guestrooms, de Margerie collaborated closely with students of the renowned Eindhoven Design Academy.
The hotel’s 52 suites were completely transformed into two categories. The exclusive Imperial Suites include butler service, a spacious lounge, bedroom with adjacent guest room, two bathrooms, Hammam, and large dining area. Meanwhile, the Suite l’Appartements have individual entrances to offer privacy and seclusion. Guests also have access to Bridges restaurant, library, spa, and refurbished fitness center.
