Located on the banks of the Nile River, Sofitel Legend Old Cataract Aswan in Egypt has reopened following a three-year restoration. French interior designer Sybille de Margerie resurrected the mythic luxury of the property while conserving its original beauty by combining Victorian, Middle Eastern, and French styles.
The hotel is divided into two sections: the Palace wing, featuring 76 guestrooms and suites, preserves the property’s historical charm with Byzantine-style striped arches, while the Nile Wing offers 62 contemporary guest suites with private balconies and guest baths overlooking the Nile River. Other elements of the refurbished resort include a new So SPA, as well as four restaurants, including 1902, a dining room renowned for its Qualaun crypt.
