Chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten will debut his second Spice Market at the soon-to-open W London Leicester Square hotel in February. Amsterdam-based design firm Concrete is creating a luxury paradise that takes cues from the old world feel of the venue’s original New York location and the modern architecture of the hotel, veiled in translucent glass that changes color.
Set over two floors, warm shades of gold, copper, chrome, and wood will be used throughout Spice Market. The windows will be discreetly screened with gold mesh, while low-slung black leather banquettes will encircle the rooms. Other notable design features will include a stunning “birdcage” gold spiral staircase and 600 custom-designed shimmering wok lamps, covering almost every part of the ceiling. Another key design element: the restaurant’s long rear wall will house spices containing all the flavors of the Southeast Asian dishes that are the venue’s hallmark. The space will also have a cocktail lounge and sushi bar.
