The St. Regis New York has partnered with Thornwillow Press, a limited-edition publisher, bespoke stationer, and custom bookbinder, to launch an “invisible store” this fall. Located in a quiet oasis on the ground floor, Thornwillow at St. Regis will showcase the hotel’s elegant interiors while merging a curated collection of handcrafted leather books, Thornwillow publications, art, library accessories, and fine stationery selected by the publisher’s founder, Luke Ives Pontifell. Comfortable reading chairs, writing desks, and antique paneled cases will accent the warm, intimate atmosphere, while a librarian will attend to guests. The space will also feature a Stationery Bar were guests will be able to mix and match Thornwillow note cards, journals, and other items to create a stationery set.
In addition, Thornwillow will be responsible for the care and restoration of John Jacob Astor’s original collection of books for the hotel. Housed on the second floor of the St. Regis New York in the Astor Library, the collection contains over 3,000 titles which Colonel Astor commissioned from Scribner & Sons in the early 1900s for the hotel. Once a working library, the Astor Library collection is now behind glass to preserve the state of the books for the next generation.
