Planhotel Resorts and Hotels has unveiled a new property in Zanzibar, Tanzania, called the Star of the East. Italian architect Dr. Germano Aghemo oversaw the creation of the lodging’s 11 unique villas, restaurant, and swimming pool. “Each villa has its own private pool, a garden full of lush vegetation, and a fountain,” Aghemo says, “while everything has been located in such a way as to ensure total privacy.” Other amenities include hydro-massage baths and outdoor panoramic showers.
In addition, Aghemo says, “Everything stems from a desire to unite a Zanzibar-Oman experience, the Sultanate’s heritage, with the most archaic symbols of Africa, the traditional hut shape with retaining walls of local stone and coral rock, entirely created by local labor.” Solar panels provide full energy to the hotel, which also has a water purification system.
Meanwhile, Dr. Roberto Doria has crafted the natural landscape surrounding the property’s villas. “The gardens and green areas have been created on coral rock, which we had to cover with soil before planting with plants which had been grown in a nursery nearby,” Doria describes. “We have used local vegetation and remodeled the ground to place the villas in such a way as to guarantee each of them a splendid sea view.”
