Starwood is moving full speed ahead with development in Canada. The company has reflagged an existing property as the Sheraton Montreal Airport Hotel, which is currently undergoing the first phase of a multimillion-dollar renovation. The first 170 guestrooms and suites have been refurbished, while the meeting room makeover has resulted in LED lighting and floor-to-ceiling windows. Meanwhile, local firm CDID Design will redesign the restaurant to overlook the expanded garden, complete with pond and waterfall. Phases 2 and 3 call for the renovation of remaining rooms and the addition of a full-service spa.
In addition, Starwood has announced plans for its first Element hotel in Canada, slated to open in 2014 in Vancouver. Four Points by Sheraton Edmonton Gateway opens later this year, and two Aloft properties are on track for Calgary and Vaughan Mills, just north of Toronto.
