IHG’s Staybridge Suites has partnered with students at the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) to produce two new interior design schemes for the brand’s guestrooms. In order to study the extended stay chain, the graduate students stayed at various Staybridge hotels and spoke to guests and employees. Once the final concepts were chosen, two of the design students assisted IHG in transforming them into fully developed schemes that are practical and cost efficient for Staybridge owners.
The new design packages—available for implementation early next year—include "Spice," which takes its inspiration from classic textile designs and clean geometry set against warm colors and bold patterns, and "Vista," focusing on fresh color, organic patterns, subtle textures, and abstract reference to landscape. Flexibility and storage take center stage in the design. Ottoman cubes provide extra seating and storage space, with upholstered tops that can be flipped open to support a laptop or food and drinks. A new desk hutch provides guests with the ability to store items and customize their workspace, while a built-in closet offers customizable shelving for clothing and luggage. Additional flexibility has been incorporated into the studio suites, where the extended night stand functions as an added work surface and vanity area, and a bench stored underneath can serve as seating or double as a dressing bench.
The two concepts also take sustainability into consideration, with kitchen countertops and bathroom vanities made of quartz, modular carpet tiles that are 100 percent recyclable, low-VOC paint, tiles made using recycled material, and fabrics that are dyed and printed in an eco-friendly manner.
