Taking cues from midcentury design, ADD Inc. is re-creating the lobby of Shelborne South Beach to evoke a “naughty and nice” vibe. The lobby entryway of curvy glass, along with a modern interpretation of an original Morris Lapidus floating porte-cochere, welcomes guests to this 280-room hotel. The word “Shelborne,” engraved in brushed aluminum adds a surprising texture to the mirrored and white terrazzo floor, which sports gray and blue specs. Two large Maria Theresa crystal chandeliers accent a black-and-white palette, including black stingray skin wrapped tightly around a stark white concierge desk. Flanked by two black marble columns adorned with white veining, the reception “bubble desk” comprises rows of illuminated orbs and white high-lacquered material.
The sultry theme continues in the lobby lounge, which features white leather tufted lounge banquettes, an upholstered soffit above the bar, smoked mirrors illuminated by Maria Theresa sconces that are draped with black tassels, an elegant photo wall and a smoking hot silver pool table. Defining the lobby restrooms are black subway tile, white terrazzo flooring, provocative images on the vinyl walls, LED glowing sinks, and elaborately framed in-mirror TVs. Zama Sushi Bar wraps up the lobby’s offerings.
The lobby will be completed by May, while the hotel’s full renovation will be revealed this fall.
