Get ready for robots to check you into your hotel room in the future. The ITB World Travel Trends Report makes this claim and outlines other technological enhancements guests can expect down the road. Automated “smart” rooms will be fully equipped to meet the needs of guests with details such as a minibar pre-stocked to personal tastes, an “energy bed,” and interactive wall displays. The report also predicts that travelers will have their own profiles, which they can either enter via a PIN on a smart phone or which are transmitted by means of biometric authentification. This data can then be used to individually adapt the lighting, air conditioning, and even the color of the room.
Meanwhile, social networks will continue to play a prominent role in travel, with experts forecasting that guests will form “hotel families”-like-minded people who communicate via the internet, compare interests, and exchange recommendations. The ITB report also notes that environmental awareness will continue to grow among travelers.
