The Caledonian, a Waldorf Astoria Hotel in Edinburgh, Scotland, has completed its $39 million restoration. The golden age of rail travel informs the property’s redesign, as evidenced in the lobby, where marble flooring, a sweeping staircase, and a brilliant chandelier of fine amber and crystal droplets dusted with gold meld for a sophisticated arrival experience. Meanwhile, the furniture takes its cues from bespoke luggage, with luxury leathers, bronze metalwork, dusted gold, and warm rosewood joinery.
Brothers Chris and Jeff Galvin have introduced two new restaurants to the hotel: the Pompadour by Galvin and Galvin Brasserie de Luxe, which pays homage to the bistros if Paris and Lyon with highly polished surfaces, ceramic tiles, archetypal lighting, and reflecting mirrors. The Caley Bar also underwent a makeover, while guests can enjoy cocktails and afternoon tea at Peacock Alley, which exudes the glamour and traditions of the original venue at Waldorf=Astoria New York.
Meeting space includes the Castle Suite, adorned with golden eagles and Scottish wildlife frescos. In addition, the Guerlain Spa opens in November.
