The Stairs Villa Hotel has broken ground, with an opening set date for early 2014. Designed by Philippe Starck for the DeCiazini Group, the hotel is located in Seminyak, Bali’s Petitenget neighborhood.

The Stairs Villa Hotel’s 12 villas, each featuring floor-to-roof glass facades by artist JonOne, create a small village on the property. Included in the indoor and outdoor living spaces will be three dining areas, an office, master and guest bedrooms, and a 36-foot swimming pool. A long console sofa, pool lounge chairs, and a wood-and-aluminum building block table are among the furnishings for the living area.
Above the main living space, a lofted bedroom will feature lightweight, white materials with lacquered white hardwood floors and a pool terrace. A canopy accented with a Mandarin orange silk passementrie hovers over a linen bed flanked by stone side tables and a stainless steel wardrobe.
An open-65-foot-wide staircase, sheltered by a double-sloped roof, provides the entrance to the Stairs Villa Hotel property. Public areas will feature a café, lounge, canteen, restaurant, and reclining dining areas. Also available are a library, spa, and a workout facility.

Located on-site, the restaurant will serve fresh local ingredients in a French style. The exposed kitchen will be encased in glass, with a lobby of midcentury aesthetics and modern touches.
“The Stairs, without a doubt, shall become the boiling bucket of energy, activity and intelligence of Bali, and perhaps more,” says Starck. “The Stairs does not follow any type of trend in decoration and architecture; it is self-designed, just following the beauty of the Balinese soul and the future of the next centers of the world.”
