Chef Julian Medina has opened his newest restaurant, Toloache Taqueria, in the Financial District of New York City. For the fast-casual concept, designer Martin Heinz has created a scheme that evokes the authentic feel of a Mexican taqueria, or taco shop, through elements such as imported terracotta tiles and light fixtures. Large, bold, hand-painted canvas drawings by Stephen Spera adorn the right-hand side of the restaurant and depict carvings of characters taken from ancient Aztec Indian texts, each holding an abstract Toloache flower.
